For a college with a plethora of aviation programs, being located at an airport is a huge advantage.
But ironically, an airport isn't a great place to base an unmanned aircraft program. Because of FAA safety rules, UAVs can't fly within roughly five miles of an airport.
Kansas State University Salina has found a way around that problem, building a large cage in the middle of campus for unmanned flights.
