Unmanned Aircraft Systems Research

Drexel University

Drexel's demonstrated UAS related research capabilities fall into three broad areas: aircrew training, command and control (C2), and human factors. Renown faculty at Drexel who specialize in human factors research have conducted several DoD, NASA, and FAA-funded research projects, including adaptive task allocation based on brain measurement of cognitive workload in path planning for multiple UAVs; collision avoidance interface for safe piloting of unmanned vehicles using a mobile device; cognitive task analysis of UAS piloting work; aspects of UAS piloting work that are prone to error and high workload; design and evaluation of an operator interface that enables a single operator to simultaneously control groups of 4-10 heterogeneous unmanned air vehicles; performance metric development to monitor cognitive workload of the manned and unmanned aircraft pilots during training and deployment.
