ASSURE Partnership Information
University PartnersASSURE is comprised of twenty-two of the world's leading research institutions.
Core University PartnersCore University Partners are the fifteen universities which were originally designated as part of the ASSURE program contract award. Each of these schools has a contract with the FAA to conduct UAS research and has the ability to sub-contract with Affiliate and Certified Partners for research support. These universities include Mississippi State University, Drexel University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Kansas State University, Montana State University, New Mexico State University, North Carolina State University, Oregon State University, University of Alabama-Huntsville, University of Alaska-Fairbanks, University of California Davis, University of Kansas, University of North Dakota, The Ohio State University, and Wichita State University.
Affiliate University PartnersAffiliate University Partners are universities which do not have a contractual relationship with the FAA, but provide a needed capability to the ASSURE program. Affiliate partners may receive research funding from a Core Partner. There are eight Affiliate Partners. The ability for a university to become an Affiliate Partner is very limited, and it is not likely ASSURE will add additional Affiliate Partners in the future. These universities include Auburn University, Concordia, Indiana State University, Louisiana Tech University, Sinclair Community College, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Tuskegee University, and University of Southampton.
Certified PartnersCertified Partners are industry or university partners which are paying members of the ASSURE program, and as such are eligible to receive information related to the research being conducted, and potentially receive ASSURE project funding.
Registered PartnersRegistered Partners are Industry, Academic, and Government partners who do not pay for membership in the center of excellence and are not eligible to receive internal research information or be funded, but are allowed to participate in ASSURE industry events.
Building Strong RelationshipsStrong relationships with all our partners is absolutely necessary to meet our 1 to 1 matching funds requirement under the condition of the FAA grant, but it is also strongly desired that our Certified Partners have the opportunity to participate in and potentially be funded to support the needed research. In support of this, we have reached an agreement with our sponsors in which we will be able to fund our Certified Partners; however, they cannot participate in a majority role (a comfortable number is no more than 25% of the value of the project) and they cannot be the face of the project...their role must always be subordinate to the lead university. Also, in the past we have not been able to provide detailed research results outside the actual research team and sponsor, however we have reached an agreement with our sponsor on a mechanism to release detailed research information to our Certified Partners.
The Overall ASSURE ValueASSURE is designed to bring industry, government and academia together to conduct and support joint UAS research and to provide the data to enable FAA rulemaking facilitating UAS access to the NAS. No other organization does this. The FAA strongly encourages industry to work via ASSURE in support of mutual research goals. The FAA is directing ASSURE to work within the alliance in the conduct of research. In doing so, ASSURE creates an opportunity for industry and university partners to "pool" resources together with other contributors. These opportunities include federal funding, significantly compounding investment levels. ASSURE focuses on FAA's priorities, removing the guesswork out of FAA research requirements. ASSURE also successfully serves as an industry conduit to recommend FAA UAS research priorities.
